Frequent Ask Question
1. What is SAT 119?
SAT 119 is a throwing type of handy fire extinguisher for general fires.
2. What is the main ingredient for SAT119?
Ammonium Phosphate – It is a kind of food additive which you could find in processing wine, yeast, ajinomoto etc.
3. What is the validity/expiry date of SAT119?
5 years. The Validity is printed on protection casing.
4. How effective is SAT119 and what is the extinguishing capacity for SAT119?
Similar to all types of fire extinguishers which cater for initial fires, SAT119 is meant to put out initial fire before it reaches ceiling. SAT119 normally can put out indoor fire of 80-100 square feet.
5. What if after 5 years? And how to dispose?
The effectiveness will be reduced and there won’t be any warranty on the ampoule. We may offer a special price to consumers whom exchange the old ampoule with a new one.
To dispose, you may break the ampoule and throw the liquid as sewage, and throw the plastic as household rubbish.
6. How does SAT119 put out fire?
When the ampoule breaks, the liquid will evaporate and produce ammonia gas. Ammonia gas will generate a retarding effect to restrain fire from burning. Another chemical (which is also a kind of food additive and commercial fertilizer) used in SAT119 & CO2 produced by the heat would suffocate oxygen and stop the burning.
7. Is SAT119 safe?
Yes. It is mainly made of FOOD ADDITIVES, so it is harmless to human body and environment.
8. Why is the color of the chemical differs?
There is no problem as long as the color is in blue. And for every batch of production, there will be slight different in terms of color. This is meant for marking purposes. The color of SAT119 will turn pale when the ampoule is continuously exposed to direct sunlight. However, the extinguishing power will not be affected even though the color of the chemicals turns pale.
9. How breakable is the ampoule?
When you hold it tightly, it can stand for 75kg, but when you drop from a distance of 30cm, the ampoule will simply break. This is a patented technology that makes SAT119 so different from the other fire extinguishers.
10. Will the ampoule hurt our skin?
The ampoule is made of special resin which is breakable but hardly cut our skin. It is safe even for children to handle.
11. Will the ampoule break if we throw at Sofa, blankets or something soft?
The ampoule may not break. Do not throw at soft surface/object. The best way is to throw at the wall near the sofa/blanket, or break the ampoule and splash on the fire (you may also dilute SAT119 with water in a bucket).
12. Can SAT119 put out B fire (Fuel/ flammable liquid) and C fire (live electrical fire)?
In Japan, we didn’t test on B Fire. This is because it’s extremely difficult to pass and obtain a NS safety certification for any fire extinguisher/ extinguishing tool in Japan. We have passed the test for Class A fire, if we apply for test on Class B fire and if it fails, the certification for Class A fire will automatically be rejected. Afterall, Class A fires are the most common fires in the world, Bonex Japan has thus decided to only promote SAT119 as a handy fire extinguisher for Class A fires.
However, we have done a test at PSB Singapore in 2003, it actually put out a 20mm of kerosene. We do not encourage users to throw SAT119 at burning pan, as the pan will overturn that may cause another fire. For cooking oil fire, COE is recommended as it is perfect for cooking oil fires.
As for C fire, when short circuit takes place, the power supply will be cut off automatically. In this case, the fire is burning the combustibles, not electricity. In this case, it is totally OK to use SAT119.
13. What if kids accidentally drink the chemical?
Quickly spit the chemical out, and drink plenty of water. If irritation occurs, please consult a doctor. The chemicals are mainly made of food additives and food coloring.
14. Can we use SAT119 for cars?
Wall type SAT119 is not suitable for cars as the ampoule may leak when the temperature is above 40C. Bonex is developing another product for car fires, we will introduce the product when we market in Malaysia.
15. Can SAT119 be used for outdoor?
For outdoor fire/ wide-spreading fire, it is recommended to dilute SAT119 with 8L-10L of water. Splash the diluted extinguishing agent towards fire. But for large scale outdoor fire such as the forest fires, we recommend APEX that caters just for large scale fires.
16. I've never heard of SAT119. Is it a proven product?
Yes, below are a few remarkable achievements of SAT119:
- Japan's No.1 throw type fire extinguisher. More than 300,000 units were sold in Japan in 2008.
- First and Only handy fire extinguisher officially used and accepted by fire departments in Japan.
- Elected the “Best Extinguishing tool” in Japan, April 2009.
- Mandatory installation at all facilities for Children and senior citizens in Korea under the Fire Safety Act, Dec 2006.
- "Best Gift" Award, Fuji TV Best House 123, April 2009.
- First handy fire extinguisher to obtain Japan NS safety certification & KFI certification in Korea.
- Singapore PSB tested.
17. What is COE?
COE is developed merely for cooking oil fires. It is small and at a more affordable price.
18. What is the main ingredient for COE?
Potassium carbonate which suits oil fires most.
19. How to use COE?
Just drop 1 sachet into the burning pan. If the oil is more than 700cc or fire is too strong, drop in another sachet. Make sure you turn off the heat/ gas valve before extinguishing cooking oil fire.
20. Can the cooking pan/wok be used again after extinguishing fire with COE?
Yes, simply wash the cooking pan/wok and you may re-use it for cooking. Do not throw away the pan/wok as the chemicals used in producing COE are eco-friendly and non-toxicity. So it is harmless to human body.
21. What is COE expiry date?
The expiry date is printed on the sachet. It lasts normally for about 4-5 years.
